Urei 1601S Sampler section - Sampling a loop the easy way
1
Play the track you want to sample – CD or vinyl it does not matter.
2
Make sure the X-fade monitor is set to monitor the music you want to sample. As a basic rule what ever you can hear in your headphones will be sampled (in most cases the fader should be set to fully right or fully left depending on which side you are s
3
Check that the bpm indicator is illuminated meaning the bpm engine has locked to the beat.
4
Check which channel the sample banks are routed to (normal function is bank A to channel 1 and bank B to channel 2)
5
Check that the volume of the sample banks are set to where you want them as the samples automatically play once you have finished recording (generally set to off and then bring in when you want).
6
Simply A - press the re-write button to activate record (it will illuminate) and then go straight to the next step.
7
B - press the rec/mute button to start recording and then again to stop recording. The bpm engine will then automatically create a seamless loop which will then start.
8
You now have a saved sample which you can play in different modes – in loop mode you can play or mute the continuously looping sample, in one shot mode you can trigger the sample from the beginning each time you press the rec/mute or use the sample fad

    TIPS

  • Use the crossfader to mix between two samples or a sample and a track.
  • Disengage the bpm engine after sampling to enable you to monitor new sources and mix new tracks into the sample (simply press and hold rec/mute and press tap/clear once to illuminate it) the bpm engine will now remain fixed at that tempo.
  • Use one shot mode to create an echo effect and combine this with the sample volume fader to create a delay effect
  • If you are running out of track and don’t know what to play next sample a few bars and loop them to buy some more time!
  • Use a foot pedal to sample your beat juggles to provide you with unique beats to scratch over.
  • Keep a loop in one sample bank for the whole mix and keep teasing it in, it will automatically keep in tempo with the master if you set the cue to master.
  • Just some ideas – the options are endless!!
